This is a list of pronouns in Japanese. This includes subject, object, and the possessive. These are used on a daily basis, so don't skip this lesson. We start with the object pronouns such as "I, you, her ..."
I: 私は watasi wa |
You: あなたは anata wa |
He: 彼は kare wa |
She: 彼女は kanojo wa |
We: 私たちは watashi tachi wa |
You (pl.): あなた方は anata-gata wa |
They: 彼らは karera wa |
Here are samples to demonstrate how the object pronoun is used in a sentence.
I love you: 私はあなたを愛しています Watasi wa anata wo aishite imasu. |
She is beautiful: 彼女は美しい。 Kanojo wa utsukusii desu. |
We are happy: 私たちは幸せです。 Watashi tachi wa shiawase desu. |
They are dancing: 彼らは踊っています。 Karera wa odotte imasu. |
Now we look into the subject pronoun such as "me, him, us, them ...".
Me: 私を watasi o |
You: あなたを anata o |
Him: 彼を kare o |
Her: 彼女を kanojo o |
Us: 私たちを watashi tachi o |
You (pl.): あなた達 anata tachi o |
Them: 彼らを karera o |
These are examples to demonstrate how the subject pronoun is used in a sentence.
Give me your phone number: 私にあなたの電話番号を教えてください。 Watasi ni anata no dennwa bangou wo osiete kudasai. |
I can give you my email: 私はあなたへ私のメールを送ります。 Watasi wa anata e watashi no meeru wo okuri masu. |
Tell him to call me: 私に電話するように、彼に言ってください。 Watasi ni dennwa suru youni, kare ni itte kudasai. |
Can you call us?: 私達に電話してもらえますか? Watasi tachi ni denwa shite morae masuka? |
We reach now the possessive adjective part, used to refer to thing we possess. Examples: "my, our, their ...".
My: 私の watasi no |
Your: あなたの anata no |
His: 彼の kare no |
Her: 彼女の kanojo no |
Our: 私たちの watasi tachi no |
Your (pl.): あなた達の anata tachi no |
Their: 彼らの karera no |
Here are samples to demonstrate how the possessive adjective is used.
My phone number is . . .: 私の電話番号は ... です。 Watasi no denwa bangou wa ... desu. |
His email is . . .: 彼のメールアドレスは ... です。 Kare no meeru adoresu wa ... desu. |
Our dream is to visit Spain: 私達の夢はスペインを訪問することです。 Watasi tachi no yume wa Supein wo houmon suru koto desu. |
Their country is beautiful: 彼らの国は美しいです。 Karera no kuni wa utsukushii desu. |
This is the possessive pronoun. Used as an alternative to the possessive adjectives above. Instead of saying "It is my dog" you can say "It is mine".
Mine: 私のもの watasi no mono |
Yours: あなたのもの anata no mono |
His: 彼のもの kare no mono |
Hers: 彼女のもの kanojo no mono |
Ours: 私たちのもの watasi tachi no mono |
Yours (pl.): あなた達のもの(複数形) anata tachi no mono (fukusuu kei) |
Theirs: 彼たちの kare tachi no |
These are some examples of the possessive pronoun in a sentence.
The book is mine: その本は私のものです。 Sono hon wa watasi no mono desu. |
Is this pen yours?: このペンはあなたのものですか? Kono pen wa anatano mono desuka? |
The shoes are hers: その靴は彼女のものです。 Sono kutsu wa kanojo no mono desu. |
Victory is ours: 勝利は我々のものだ。 Shouri wa ware ware no mono da. |
