Spanish Past

This is a list of verbs in the past tense in Spanish. First let's start with the raw format before conjugating the verbs to the past form. Make sure to compare this table and the one below it.

To play: Jugar
To read: Leer
To understand: Comprender
To have: Tener
To know: Saber / conocer
To learn: Aprender
To think: Pensar

These samples show how the verbs above are conjugated in the past tense in a sentence which includes all the object pronouns (I, you, she...).

I saw you: Yo te vi.
I wrote with a pen: Yo escribí con bolígrafo.
You loved apples: Te gustaron las manzanas.
You gave money: Tú diste dinero.
You played tennis: Tú jugaste al tenis.
He read (past) a book: Él leyó un libro.
He understood me: Él me entendió.
She had a cat: Ella tenía un gato.
She knew my friend: Ella conoció a mi amigo.
We wanted to learn: Nosotros quisimos aprender.
We thought Spanish is easy: Nosotros pensábamos que el español / castellano era fácil.
You (plural) worked here: Vosotros trabajasteis aquí.
You (plural) spoke French: Vosotros hablasteis francés.
They drove a car: Ellos condujeron un coche.
They smiled: Ellos sonrieron.
