German Directions

These are expressions used when giving or getting directions in German. Very useful when trying to find your way around or when lost.

Excuse me! (to ask someone): Entschuldigen!
Can you show me?: Können Sie mir zeigen?
I'm lost: Ich bin verloren
I'm not from here: Ich bin nicht von hier
Can I help you?: Kann ich Ihnen helfen?
Can you help me?: Können Sie mir helfen?
It's near here: Es ist hier in der Nähe
It's far from here: Es ist weit von hier
Go straight: Fahren Sie geradeaus
Turn left: links abbiegen
Turn right: rechts abbiegen
One moment please!: Einen Moment bitte!
Come with me!: Komm mit mir!
How can I get to the museum? : Wie kann ich zum Museum?
How long does it take to get there?: Wie lange dauert es, um dorthin zu gelangen?
Downtown (city center): Innenstadt

The following are words which might be used alone or in combination with other words to ask or give directions.

Near: nahe
Far: weit
Right: rechts
Left: links
Straight: gerade
There: dort
Here: hier
To walk: laufen
To drive: fahren
To turn: abbiegen
Traffic light: Ampel
