This is a lesson about negation in Tamil. This includes words or expressions used to form a negative form as opposted to the affirmative. For example "I don't understand".
No: இல்லை illai |
Nothing: ஒன்றுமில்லை oṉṟumillai |
Not yet: இதுவரை இல்லை ituvarai illai |
No one: யாருமில்லை yārumillai |
No longer: இனியில்லை iṉiyillai |
Never: ஒரு போதும் இல்லை oru pōtum illai |
Cannot: முடியாது muṭiyātu |
Should not: கூடாது kūṭātu |
The below examples demonstrate how to use the negation form in a sentence. Don't be shy to use of these expressions if you don't know something.
We don't understand: எங்களுக்கு புரியவில்லை eṅkaḷukku puriyavillai |
I do not speak Japanese: ஜப்பானிய மொழியை நாங்கள் பேசவில்லை jappāṉiya moḻiyai nāṅkaḷ pēcavillai |
I cannot remember the word: வார்த்தை எனக்கு நினைவில் இல்லை vārttai eṉakku niṉaivil illai |
You should not forget this word: இந்த வார்த்தையை நீ மறக்கக் கூடாது inta vārttaiyai nī maṟakkak kūṭātu |
No problem!: பரவாயில்லை! paravāyillai! |
I don't know!: எனக்குத் தெரியாது! Eṉakkut teriyātu! |
I'm not interested!: எனக்கு விருப்பமில்லை! Eṉakku viruppamillai! |
Don't worry!: கவலைப்படாதே! Kavalaippaṭātē! |
This is wrong: இது தவறு Itu tavaṟu |
This is not correct: இது சரியல்ல itu cariyalla |
No one here speaks Greek: இங்கே யாரும் கிரீக் மொழியை பேசுவதில்லை iṅkē yārum kirīk moḻiyai pēcuvatillai |
I'm not fluent in Italian yet: இத்தாலிய மொழியை நான் இதுவரை சரளமாக வராது ittāliya moḻiyai nāṉ ituvarai caraḷamāka varātu |
