Gujarati Directions

These are expressions used when giving or getting directions in Gujarati. Very useful when trying to find your way around or when lost.

Excuse me! (to ask someone): માફ કરશો! (કોઈને પૂછવા માટે)
māpha karaśō! (Kō'īnē pūchavā māṭē)
Can you show me?: શું તમે મને બતાવી શકો?
śuṁ tamē manē batāvī śakō?
I'm lost: હું ભૂલો પડ્યો છું
Huṁ bhūlō paḍyō chuṁ
I'm not from here: હું અહીંનો નથી
huṁ ahīnnō nathī
Can I help you?: શું હું તમને મદદ કરી શકું?
śuṁ huṁ tamanē madada karī śakuṁ?
Can you help me?: શું તમે મને મદદ કરી શકો?
Śuṁ tamē manē madada karī śakō?
It's near here: તે અહીં નજીક છે
Tē ahīṁ najīka chē
It's far from here: તે અહીંથી દૂર છે
tē ahīnthī dūra chē
Go straight: સીધા જાઓ
sīdhā jā'ō
Turn left: ડાબે વળો
ḍābē vaḷō
Turn right: જમણે વળો
jamaṇē vaḷō
One moment please!: એક મિનિટ પ્લીઝ!
ēka miniṭa plījha!
Come with me!: મારી સાથે આવો!
Mārī sāthē āvō!
How can I get to the museum? : હું મ્યુઝિયમ કઈ રીતે પહોંચી શકું?
Huṁ myujhiyama ka'ī rītē pahōn̄cī śakuṁ?
How long does it take to get there?: ત્યાં પહોંચવામાં કેટલો સમય લાગે છે?
Tyāṁ pahōn̄cavāmāṁ kēṭalō samaya lāgē chē?
Downtown (city center): ડાઉનટાઉન (શહેરનું કેન્દ્ર)
Ḍā'unaṭā'una (śahēranuṁ kēndra)

The following are words which might be used alone or in combination with other words to ask or give directions.

Near: નજીક
najīka
Far: દૂર
dūra
Right: જમણે
jamaṇē
Left: ડાબે
ḍābē
Straight: સીધા
sīdhā
There: ત્યાં
tyāṁ
Here: અહીં
ahīṁ
To walk: ચાલવું
cālavuṁ
To drive: હંકારવું
haṅkāravuṁ
To turn: વળવું
vaḷavuṁ
Traffic light: ટ્રાફિક લાઈટ
ṭrāphika lā'īṭa
