Flemish Past

This is a list of verbs in the past tense in Flemish. First let's start with the raw format before conjugating the verbs to the past form. Make sure to compare this table and the one below it.

To understand: begrijpen
To have: hebben
To know: weten
To learn: leren

These samples show how the verbs above are conjugated in the past tense in a sentence which includes all the object pronouns (I, you, she...).

I saw you: Ik zag jou. / Ik zag u.
I wrote with a pen: Ik schreef met een pen.
You loved apples: Jij hield van appels. / U hield van appels.
You gave money: Jij gaf geld. / U gaf geld.
You played tennis: Jij speelde tennis. / U speelde tennis.
He read (past) a book: Hij las een boek.
He understood me: Hij begreep mij.
She had a cat: Zij had een kat.
She knew my friend: Zij kende mijn vriend.
We wanted to learn: Zij wilden leren.
We thought Spanish is easy: Wij dachten dat Spaans eenvoudig is.
You (plural) worked here: Jullie werkten hier.
You (plural) spoke French: Jullie spoken Frans.
They drove a car: Zij reden met de auto.
They smiled: Zij glimlachten.
