Flemish Directions

These are expressions used when giving or getting directions in Flemish. Very useful when trying to find your way around or when lost.

Excuse me! (to ask someone): Excuseer
Can you show me?: Kunt u het me laten zien?
I'm lost: Ik ben de weg kwijt.
I'm not from here: Ik ben niet van hier.
Can I help you?: Kan ik u helpen?
Can you help me?: Kunt u mij helpen?
It's near here: Het is vlakbij.
It's far from here: Het is ver weg.
Go straight: Ga rechtdoor
Turn left: Sla linksaf
Turn right: Sla rechtsaf
One moment please!: Een ogenblik a.u.b!
Come with me!: Kom met me mee!
How can I get to the museum? : Hoe kom ik bij het museum?
How long does it take to get there?: Hoelang duurt het om tot daar te komen?
Downtown (city center): Centrum

The following are words which might be used alone or in combination with other words to ask or give directions.

Near: dichtbij / vlakbij
Far: ver
Right: rechts
Left: links
Straight: rechtdoor
There: daar
Here: hier
To walk: wandelen / lopen
To drive: rijden
To turn: keren / draaien
Traffic light: verkeerslicht
