Catalan Pronouns

This is a list of pronouns in Catalan. This includes subject, object, and the possessive. These are used on a daily basis, so don't skip this lesson. We start with the object pronouns such as "I, you, her ..."

I: jo
You: tu / vostè / vosaltres
He: ell
She: ella
We: nosaltres
You (pl.): Vosaltres
They: ells

Here are samples to demonstrate how the object pronoun is used in a sentence.

I love you: T'estimo
She is beautiful: (Ella) és preciosa
We are happy: Estem contents
They are dancing: (Ells) Ballen

Now we look into the subject pronoun such as "me, him, us, them ...".

Me: 'm
You: tu / vostè / vosaltres
Him: ell
Her: ella
Us: nosaltres
You (pl.): vosaltres
Them: ells

These are examples to demonstrate how the subject pronoun is used in a sentence.

Give me your phone number: Dóna'm el teu telèfon.
I can give you my email: Et puc donar la meva adreça electrònica.
Tell him to call me: Digues-l'hi que em truqui.
Can you call us?: Ens pots trucar?

We reach now the possessive adjective part, used to refer to thing we possess. Examples: "my, our, their ...".

My: el(s) meu(s) / la (les) meva (meves)
Your: el(s) teu(s) / la (les) teva (teves)
His: el(s)seu(s) / la (les) seva (seves)
Her: el(s) seu(s) / la (les)seva (seves)
Our: el (la) nostre / els (les) nostres
Your (pl.): el(s) vostre(s)
Their: el(s) seu(s) / la (les)seva (seves)

Here are samples to demonstrate how the possessive adjective is used.

My phone number is . . .: El meu número de telèfon és...
His email is . . .: el seu correu electronic és...
Our dream is to visit Spain: El nostre somni és visitar Espanya
Their country is beautiful: El seu país és formós

This is the possessive pronoun. Used as an alternative to the possessive adjectives above. Instead of saying "It is my dog" you can say "It is mine".

Mine: meu(s) / meva(meves)
Yours: teu(s) / teva(teves)
His: seu(s) / seva(seves)
Hers: seu(s) / seva(seves)
Ours: nostre(s)
Yours (pl.): vostre(s)
Theirs: seu(s) / seva(seves)

These are some examples of the possessive pronoun in a sentence.

The book is mine: el llibre és meu
Is this pen yours?: La ploma és teva?
The shoes are hers: Les sabates són seves. (d'ella).
Victory is ours: La Victòria és nostra!
