He read (past) a book: Ele leu um livro |
He understood me: Ele me entendeu |

We wanted to learn: Nós queríamos aprender |
We thought Spanish is easy: Nós pensávamos que Espanhol seria fácil |
You (plural) worked here: Vocês trabalharam aqui |
You (plural) spoke French: Vocês falavam francês |
They drove a car: Eles dirigiam um carro / Elas dirigiam um carro |
They smiled: Eles sorriam / Elas sorriam |
