Basque Directions

These are expressions used when giving or getting directions in Basque. Very useful when trying to find your way around or when lost.

Excuse me! (to ask someone): Barkatu!
Can you show me?: Erakutsi diezadakezu?
I'm lost: Galduta nago.
I'm not from here: Ez naiz hemengoa.
Can I help you?: Lagundu diezaizuket?
Can you help me?: Lagundu diezadakezu?
It's near here: Hemendik gertu dago.
It's far from here: Hemendik urrun dago.
Go straight: Zuzen joan.
Turn left: Ezkerretara biratu.
Turn right: Eskumatara biratu.
One moment please!: Itxon pixka bat, mesedez!
Come with me!: Etor zaitez nirekin!
How can I get to the museum? : Nola heldu nahiteke museora?
How long does it take to get there?: Zenbat denbora behar da hara heltzeko?
Downtown (city center): Hiri erdigunea.

The following are words which might be used alone or in combination with other words to ask or give directions.

Near: Gertu.
Far: Urrun.
Right: Eskuin.
Left: Ezker.
Straight: Zuzen.
There: hor
Here: hemen
To walk: Oinez.
To drive: Gidatu.
To turn: Biratu.
Traffic light: Semaforoa.
