Yoruba Past

This is a list of verbs in the past tense in Yoruba. First let's start with the raw format before conjugating the verbs to the past form. Make sure to compare this table and the one below it.

To love: fẹràn
To give: fún
To play: ṣere
To read: ká
To understand: yé
To have: ní
To know: mọ
To learn: kọ
To think: ronú
To work: ṣiṣẹ́
To speak: sọ̀rọ̀
To drive: wà
To smile: rẹrìn
To find: rihé

These samples show how the verbs above are conjugated in the past tense in a sentence which includes all the object pronouns (I, you, she...).

I saw you: Mo tí rí ẹ.
I wrote with a pen: Mo tí kọ́ pẹ̀lú kálàmù.
You loved apples: Ó tí fẹ́ràn ápùlù.
You gave money: Ó tí fun ní owó.
You played tennis: Ó ti ṣeré tẹnísì.
He read (past) a book: Ó tí ká ìwé.
He understood me: Ọ̀rọ̀ mí ti ye e.
She had a cat: Ó ti ní ológbò.
She knew my friend: Ó ti mọ òrẹ́ mi.
We wanted to learn: A ti fẹ́ kọ́.
We thought Spanish is easy: Á ti rò pé Súpániṣi rọrùn.
You (plural) worked here: Ẹ̀yin ti ṣiṣẹ́ níbí.
You (plural) spoke French: Ẹ̀yin ti ṣọ faransé.
They drove a car: Nwọn ti wa ọ́kọ̀ ayọ́kọlẹ.
They smiled: Nwọn ti rẹ́rìn.
