Latvian Past

This is a list of verbs in the past tense in Latvian. First let's start with the raw format before conjugating the verbs to the past form. Make sure to compare this table and the one below it.

To love: mīlēt
To give: dot
To play: spēlēt
To read: lasīt
To understand: saprast
To have: piederēt
To know: zināt
To learn: mācīties
To think: domāt
To work: strādāt
To speak: runāt
To drive: braukt / vadīt auto
To smile: smaidīt
To find: atrast

These samples show how the verbs above are conjugated in the past tense in a sentence which includes all the object pronouns (I, you, she...).

I saw you: Es redzēju tevi
I wrote with a pen: Es rakstīju ar pildspalvu
You loved apples: Tev garšoja āboli
You gave money: Tu iedevi naudu
You played tennis: Tu spēlēji tenisu
He read (past) a book: Viņš lasīja grāmatu
He understood me: Viņš mani saprata
She had a cat: Viņai bija kaķis
She knew my friend: Viņa pazina manu draugu (draudzeni)
We wanted to learn: Mēs gribējām mācīties
We thought Spanish is easy: Mēs domājām, ka spāņu valoda ir viegla
You (plural) worked here: Jūs te strādājāt
You (plural) spoke French: Jūs runājāt franciski
They drove a car: Viņi brauca ar auto
They smiled: Viņi smaidīja
