Estonian Pronouns

This is a list of pronouns in Estonian. This includes subject, object, and the possessive. These are used on a daily basis, so don't skip this lesson. We start with the object pronouns such as "I, you, her ..."

I: mina / ma
You: sina (sa) / teie
He: tema / ta
She: tema / ta
We: meie / me
You (pl.): teie / te
They: nemad / nad

Here are samples to demonstrate how the object pronoun is used in a sentence.

I love you: Ma armastan sind
She is beautiful: Ta(Naissoost) on ilus
We are happy: Me oleme õnnelikud
They are dancing: Nad tantsivad

Now we look into the subject pronoun such as "me, him, us, them ...".

Me: mulle
You: sulle / teile
Him: talle
Her: talle
Us: meile
You (pl.): teile
Them: neile

These are examples to demonstrate how the subject pronoun is used in a sentence.

Give me your phone number: Anna mulle oma telefoninumber
I can give you my email: Võin anda sulle oma e-posti aadressi
Tell him to call me: Ütle talle, et ta helistaks mulle
Can you call us?: Kas sa saad meile helistada ?

We reach now the possessive adjective part, used to refer to thing we possess. Examples: "my, our, their ...".

My: minu
Your: sinu, teie
His: tema
Her: tema
Our: meie
Your (pl.): teie
Their: nende

Here are samples to demonstrate how the possessive adjective is used.

My phone number is . . .: Minu telefoninumber on...
His email is . . .: tema e-posti aadress on
Our dream is to visit Spain: Meie unistus on sõita Hispaaniasse / külastada Hispaaniat
Their country is beautiful: Nende riik on ilus

This is the possessive pronoun. Used as an alternative to the possessive adjectives above. Instead of saying "It is my dog" you can say "It is mine".

Mine: minu
Yours: sinu, teie
His: tema
Hers: tema (female)
Ours: meie
Yours (pl.): Teie ( Mitmus)
Theirs: nende

These are some examples of the possessive pronoun in a sentence.

The book is mine: See on minu raamat
Is this pen yours?: Kas see on sinu pastapliiats ?
The shoes are hers: Need jalanõud on tema omad ( Naissoost)
Victory is ours: Võit on meie
